Shacklabank Farm sits proudly upon a hill top overlooking The Howgill Fells and surrounding dales but only two miles from Junction 37 on the M6 motorway. Situated on the edge of The Yorkshire Dales National Park and only a 20 minute drive from the Lake District National Park, we offer you an ideal location for exploring some of the most dramatic areas of England. Indeed, the Dales Way, Coast to Coast Walk and the Westmorland Heritage Walk all pass through this breathtaking landscape.

The Howgill Fells is one of the most spectacular ranges of hills within the Yorkshire Dales. Cautley Spout and her dark crags, Hobdale Gill and Beck, Black Force and The Stone Horse of Busha are just a few of her special places.

The ancient market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-ber) is our nearest town only two miles away at the foot of Winder Fell in the Howgills. Sedbergh is England’s Book Town and 'a paradise for book lovers’. Sedbergh has many amenities, including shops, cafés, public houses and its own Tourist Information Centre, a pretty Post Office/shop/tea room, a wonderful and friendly bakery/café and a fabulous butchers. Dent and her hidden dale are just five miles from Sedbergh via a lush and wooded valley. Dent is a very pretty village with cobbled streets and a history of ‘terrible knitters’. The road beyond will take you to Hawes or Ingleton passing the famais Dent Head Viaduct.

The nearby area of Mallerstang Edge and Wild Boar Fell is magnificent and the ‘Helm Wind’ blows hauntingly around her peaks. This area is truly romantic and is steeped in history, myth and legend. The ruin of Pendragon Castle (home of Uther Pendragon, father of King Arthur) rests in the valley bottom.

The area we live in is special and unique, our landscape ancient and interesting from wild dark crags, round green fell tops, dramatic waterfalls, lush valleys, old woodland, purple heather-clad peaks, limestone pavements and cobbled streets to the most romantic of castles.
